Editor’s Explanatory Notes
Ⅰ. Xinjiang
Statistical Yearbook-2004 (in both Chinese and English) is the data
annual of comprehensive information on Xinjiang’s economy and social
development in both Chinese and English by Statistical Bureau of Xinjiang Uygur
Autonomous Region. The publication of the yearbook will provide the leading
officials and heads at all levels with detailed and varied information in their
knowledge of Xinjiang’s situation and Xinjiang’s economic operation as well as
macro -instruction for economy.
Ⅱ. The yearbook comprises such sections as:
Special Article (Statistical Communique on National Economy and Social
Development of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the year 2003); divisions of
administrative areas and natural resoueces; general survey; calculation of nationl economy,
population, employment and staff wages; investment in fixed assets;government
finance,banking and insurance; price indices; people’s livelihood;
agriculture;industry; construction; transportation, postal and telecommunication
services;wholesale and retal trade and catering trade; production and
consumption of energy;foreign trade and economic cooperation and
tourism;education,science and technology, culture;sports,public health and
others;general survey of cities;enterprises group and enterprises climate
indices;ranking of main economic indicators by regions, prefectures and cities
in Xinjiang;ranking of main economic indicators by region; addenda (ranking of
main economic indicators by province, munipality and autonomous
region),etc.Each section is equipped with Explanatory Notes of Main Statistical
Indicators at the end.
Ⅲ. The national legal metering units are
adopted as units of computation in the yearbook.
Ⅳ.
The computation unit adopted in the data is the national legal metering
unit.
Ⅴ. The data about Ili Kazak Autonomous
Prefecture in the present Xinjiang Statistical Yearbook covers counties
(cities) direct under Ili Prefecture, Tacheng Prefecture and Altay Prefecture.
VI. The data for the total
population of Xinjiang is based on the data of sampled survey in population
variation.
Ⅵ. Description of signs or symbols in the
yearbook:
“# ”stands for interim item;
“…” for data with insufficient decimal place; “blank” for absence of data
indicators or ignorance of them.
Ⅷ. In the course of compilation and
translation, the yearbook has received great support from many units and
comrades in and out of Xinjiang, we acknowledge their help to the book.
Mistakes and faults are inevitable to take place for inadequate proficiency and
limited time. Leaders, personnel from all walks of life and colleagues from
statistical sector are welcome to make their critical comments and suggestions.
