Qalysbek Baban was a businessman/entrepreneur and a well-known singer and composer among Chinese Kazakhs. He is an author of more than 60 songs. He has a WeChat platform called "Sol Kunder (Those days)" and he is a famous social media star among Kazakhs. He visited Kazakhstan in August 2015.
He was living in Urumqi city.

He was detained in July 2018, 2 or 3 days after his wife's detention, for praying. He would be released after two months. However, he was detained again on December 3, 2019, for reading a poem about religion and now is waiting for his sentence in prison in Hutubi.
