She was originally reported as detained a total of three times. The first was in April 2018 in Urumqi, when she was released after one week. The second was in Hotan's Guma County in August 2018. The third and latest was on December 19, 2018, while she was in Urumqi (in Ulanbai).
According to her boyfriend, she had also taught in a camp starting in 2017, teaching for 8 months and then being sent to teach at a camp in Hotan. She once told him that some of the people she taught were sentenced to 20 years, and that she herself had her freedom restricted and felt like a prisoner in that place.
She was allegedly released in August 2019, but the original testifier is now unsure if she was really detained this last time (as the victim herself later said that she had gone out of contact intentionally).
