Because of a typo in his name, he has not received salary from his workplace. His family is currently working with the community police in obtaining the money: the bank has refused to approve the transaction as the power of attorney had not been notarized. The bank offered to send a representative to the re-education camp to meet with Elkun regarding the matter, provided that the family procures an official letter from the Shuimogou District Political & Legal Affairs Commission. The case has been passed to the subdistrict authorities.

On November 19, 2018, Elkun's wife reported rumors that camp detainees were being allowed to leave the facilities freely and live at home for 2 days every week. The police dismissed the rumor. Because of a typo in his name, he has not received salary from his workplace.
