current location
The No. 4 prison in Urumqi.
unknown (possibly in Urumqi)
chronology of detention(s)
According to his daughter in an interview to Radio Free Asia, Kamil was detained on April 13, 2018. He was first placed in a re-education camp [possibly: pre-trial detention center].
According to his daughter in a Radio Free Asia interview, he was then transferred to the No. 4 prison in Urumqi at some point in August-September 2018. In a 2021 Facebook post, however, an anonymous testifier says that he spent between April 2018 and April 2020 in camp, and was then sentenced to 8 years in prison [this is more likely to be an error seeing as how the victim's daughter had already reported the sentence in 2019].
Ten months ago (as of February 2019), according to his daughter's tweet (approx. April 2018, then).
RFA article: He was detained on April 13th, 2018. He was first placed at re-education camps, then around August-September, 2018, he was transferred to NO. 4 prison in Urumqi.
Testimony 7: He was in a concentration camp from April 2018 until April 2020. In April 2020, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison for "promoting separatism". (The charge was related to publishing Uyghur textbooks for elementary students.)
suspected and/or official reason(s) for detention
According to his daughter, he was detained for being among those responsible for the editing of middle/high-school textbooks in Xinjiang (from 2002 to 2011).
Abduweli Ayup believes that he was targeted for being one of the scholars to have signed Memtimin Elyar's 2005 petition for the protection of Uyghur-language education.
The anonymous testifier on Facebook states that he was charged with "promoting separatism" (for his work on the Uyghur textbooks).
RFA article: He was detained for being a member of textbook editors in between 2002-2011.
Testimony 6: According to Abduweli Ayup, he was targeted for being one of the scholars to have signed Memtimin Elyar's 2005 petition for the protection of Uyghur-language education.
last reported status
Serving a prison sentence.
According to his daughter's post on Twitter, he has a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.
[There is a high likelihood of him being subjected to forced labor at the Xinjiang No. 4 Prison, as the Urumqi Shunkangda Trade & Commerce LLC (乌鲁木齐顺康达商贸有限责任公司) operates out of there.]
In detention.
According to his daughter's metoouyghur post, he has a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.
