Ekrem Tursun is from Guzer Neighborhood in Kashgar. Memet Jume, the imam of the Id-Kah mosque and alleged author of the state-media article, mentions Ekrem as an acquaintance who had previously been "influenced by extremism", alleging that Ekrem did not let his wife to work, ordered her to veil up and prevented her from keeping contact with non-Muslims.
