Eli Mamut was accused of leading a terrorist group and watching illegal Uyghur-language videos on his mobile phone. According to his father Mamut Awut, his son has only watched videos on his mobile phone not knowing they had been classified as illegal by Chinese authorities
Eli Mamut was arrested with 9 or 13 (?) of his classmates in the end of September 2014 for watching Uyghur-language videos on their mobile phones.

Eli Mamut was given a life sentence in a trial in the first week of January 2015.
