Dolqun Tursun was arrested twice.
The first time, he was arrested and interrogated by police in 2013 after having given a speech in February 2013 to mark the International Mother Language Day. In his speech he said that it is “a point of pride to know a foreign language, and a sin not to know one’s mother tongue.” According to Abduweli Ayup, authorities “gave [Tursun] a bit of a rough time for having used the word ‘sin.’
Dolqun Tursun disappeared a second time in 2017.

Testimony 2: According to a Han staff member of Kashgar No. 6 High School called by RFA, Dolqun Tursun "was sent down to a village”.

Testimony 1: According to Abduweli Ayup, Dolqun Tursun was detained in 2017 and there are no news of him suggesting that he has been released.

Testimony 1: Abduweli Ayup learned about the victim from not closer defined "sources". (Abduweli Ayup's account is complemented by RFA phone calls to Dolqun Tursun's home, revealing that the number had been disconnected.)
