Dolqun Tursun was arrested twice.
The first time, he was arrested and interrogated by police in 2013 after having given a speech in February 2013 to mark the International Mother Language Day. In his speech he said that it is “a point of pride to know a foreign language, and a sin not to know one’s mother tongue.” According to Abduweli Ayup, authorities “gave [Tursun] a bit of a rough time for having used the word ‘sin.’
Dolqun Tursun disappeared a second time in 2017.
